Let's Talk About Race: The Importance of Language and Words

The EIO presents: Let's Talk About Race!
Date: Wednesday, October 30th, 2019

Time: 11:30am – 1:30pm
Location: L.R. Wilson Hall, Community Room 1003
Theme: The Importance of Language and Words
Facilitator: Rodrigo Narro Perez, R3 Co-convener

Racialized, BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and People of Colour) students, staff and faculty are invited to the first drop-in session of the year. In commemoration of Latin American Heritage Month, please join us in discussing the importance of language and the impacts that they have on racialized folks.

The word ‘Latino’ was first used by the United States census as a way to classify people from Latin American who spoke Spanish, regardless of race. This has had wide racial and social impacts in North America & Latin American. BIPOC staff, faculty and students are invited to discuss the importance of language and words when referring to racialized folks.

*Pizza, snacks and beverages will be provided!
