Location: SWC Lounge (PGCLL Level 2)

In recognition of Black History Month (BHM) in the month of February, the SWC will feature a curated selection of short stories, graphic novels, and other works to expand the Literature in the Lounge program. Visitors to the lounge are encouraged to engage with a selection of literature that prompts reflections about race, culture, community, justice, and equity. During Black History Month, and through the literature in the lounge initiatives, we can honour and amplify the voices of Black authors and celebrate the vast community networks that have blossomed on campus.

A fun-filled night of games, laughter, and bonding to foster community spirit. Wear your favourite durag, PJs, moomoos/bubus, or loungewear to get comfy and join us for a chill evening with snacks, music, and games!

Description: Black History Month officially begins with a campus-wide gathering featuring remarks from senior administration, the Equity and Inclusion Office, and a student representative. Together, they will reflect on this year’s theme and its significance to our campus community. The celebration will also include two live performances highlighting Black artistry, culture, and creative excellence.

In collaboration with Blk Owned Hamilton, join us for a vibrant Black-Owned Market showcasing local Black entrepreneurs, creatives, and community organizations. This event offers an opportunity to connect, shop, and support Black-owned businesses while celebrating innovation, resilience, and economic empowerment.

Location: Burridge Gymnasium

The BSAC Black History Month Basketball Games feature McMaster’s women’s and men’s varsity teams in a celebration of Black excellence on and off the court. The event highlights and supports Black student-athletes while uplifting Black-owned businesses through community engagement and visibility. It creates space for recognition, education, and connection, using sport as a platform to celebrate culture, foster inclusion, and strengthen campus and community ties.

The presence of people of African descent in Hamilton predates its incorporation in 1846, yet the experiences, contributions, struggles, and imaginations often go unnoticed. As residents of Hamilton prepare to celebrate Black History Month, this 4 week virtual interactive public lecture will offer you an opportunity to delve into the specific experiences, contributions, struggles, and imaginations of Hamilton Black history, present, and future.

“Spirituality and…” is a speaker series for university students to explore how one’s spiritual life intersects with other areas of life! McMaster’s Ecumenical Chaplaincy and the Campus Ministries Council invite you to our new speaker series, “Spirituality and…”, where we’ll explore how our spiritual lives intersect with all the other interests and aspects of life that make us, us! Our first speaker is Juno-award-winning Canadian-Rwandan rapper Shad, tackling the topic of “Spirituality and Music”. Join us for a fireside chat hosted by ecumenical chaplains Charles Meeks and Marlice Simon!
