Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy: A Progress Report

At this time last year, McMaster launched its EDI Strategy. Now, one year into our 2019 – 2022 EDI Action Plan, I’m pleased to be able to share the progress that has been made across all four areas of priority identified in the EDI Framework for Strategic Action.

We have accomplished the following short-term priorities of the Action Plan:

We are also progressing in the following short to mid-term priorities of the Action Plan:

  • developing expanded student diversity census to be launched in the fall of 2020
  • analyzing data collected from an ethics approved research study on the integration of EDI and inclusive excellence principles and best practices in faculty hiring processes, using the faculty of science as a case study
  • reviewing McMaster’s accessibility policy

An EDI Strategy Steering Committee was established in the fall of 2019, and several Implementation Teams were initiated to advance the 2019 – 2022 EDI Action Plan objectives.
