Every year on November 20, we honour and remember transgender, nonbinary, Two Spirit, and gender-diverse people who have lost their lives because of anti-trans violence, discrimination, and hatred in our communities.

We also raise awareness about the ongoing anti-trans violence that continues to impact the daily lives of trans, nonbinary, Two Spirit, and gender-diverse peoples. The attack at the University of Waterloo this summer as well as the ongoing 1 Million March 4 Children protests, serve as stark reminders that the work to end anti-trans violence is as critical today as ever.

“It is vital that we continue to raise awareness about the historic roots and enduring nature of anti-trans exclusions and violence through an intersectional lens. We must take action, and work to a create safe, affirming, and welcoming space for all trans, non-binary, 2 Spirit and gender diverse community members at McMaster and beyond,” says Barrington Walker, Vice-Provost of Equity and Inclusion.
