Location: Hamilton’s Farmers’ Market
Description: The event will include a live culinary demonstration by Afrolicious Catering, showcasing dishes from the African diaspora, with food samples available. The chef will also share their journey and experiences as a Black business owner.
A 45-minute panel discussion will follow, featuring vendors from the Hamilton Farmers’ Market. A representative from BlkOwned Hamilton will moderate the discussion, focusing on the challenges and successes of Black entrepreneurship.
There will be an interactive activity throughout the event where folks can participate in creating a community quilt to express stories, culture, and diversity, facilitated by Arts for All.

Since 1996, the Reverend John C Holland Awards have celebrated excellence in Hamilton’s Black community. The Awards celebrate and recognize the academic achievements and aspirations of Black youth by offering scholarships and support to assist them in accessing post-secondary education. The Awards also celebrate the rich cultural heritage of our community and recognize the contributions of local Black leaders to the social, economic, and cultural life of our city. Hosted by the Hamilton Black History Council, and with the support of community partners, the annual event is attended by hundreds of individuals and organizations and is a cornerstone of Black History Month in Hamilton.

Description: Canada celebrates Black History Month in February to honor the contributions and legacies of Black Canadians. This month highlights the unique experiences of Black Canadians, often overshadowed by American narratives.
Join artist and Afrosonic researcher Charlie Star as she delves into the Hamilton Public Library’s CD collection to explore the representation of Black Canadian musicians. Her presentation includes a listening party and the chance to submit requests for CDs to add to the library’s collection.
Charlie Star, an interdisciplinary artist and DJ with a Master’s in Studio Arts, blends astrology, collage, Black diasporic studies, experimental sound, and Afrofuturism to explore identity through her work.
