Description: Joining the McMaster community in celebrating the start to Black History Month! Enjoy connecting with campus groups, departments and community partners while listening to spoken word and musical performances from our talented community. This is a drop-in event where you can pop in any time!

Description:

The Africa and Black Diaspora Studies (ABLD) Seminar Series at McMaster University is a platform designed to foster academic and community engagement on issues pertinent to the African and Black diaspora. This seminar brings together scholars and community leaders to explore how reframing historical contexts can foster a more inclusive understanding of our shared past.

Description: This year, we are excited to announce the Black Formal, a special event that brings together Black students and allies for an evening of connection and celebration. Taking place on February 8th, during Black History Month, the Black Formal will feature a formal dinner, entertainment, and an awards ceremony celebrating Blackness.

Description: McMaster’s Intramural Sports program will be hosting a Black History Month Multisport Tournament on Saturday, February 8th, from 1:00 – 5:00pm. The tournament will be a fun way to celebrate community through sport, featuring a rotation of sports including soccer, basketball, and volleyball.

Location: Hamilton’s Farmers’ Market

Description: The event will include a live culinary demonstration by Afrolicious Catering, showcasing dishes from the African diaspora, with food samples available. The chef will also share their journey and experiences as a Black business owner.

A 45-minute panel discussion will follow, featuring vendors from the Hamilton Farmers’ Market. A representative from BlkOwned Hamilton will moderate the discussion, focusing on the challenges and successes of Black entrepreneurship.

 There will be an interactive activity throughout the event where folks can participate in creating a community quilt to express stories, culture, and diversity, facilitated by Arts for All.
BLACK VOICES AT THE MARKET: STORIES, FLAVOURS, AND SUCCESS – Hamilton Farmers’ Market

Description: A celebration of Black athletes and the work they continuously do. We’ll be having a black owned market in the mezzanine, as well as allow for student groups and faculty to have booths promoting the work they do.
