Diasporic Dreams: Reclaiming Pasts, Shaping the Present, Crafting Futures- Black History Month at McMaster 2025

Black History Month 2025

Background on the theme:

Reclaiming pasts honors the importance of history and ancestral roots within the African diaspora and symbolizes historical contributions that shape our present and future. Shaping the present allows us to recognize how individuals and communities shape reality though everyday acts of resistance, creativity, joy and innovation. Crafting futures suggests that the future is a creation and emphasizes Afrofuturism’s power to imagine worlds where Blackness and diasporic identity are central, rather than marginalized within society.
